Course Abstract & Learning Objectives

This brief course guides clinicians, students, and entrepreneurs through establishing successful hearing healthcare clinics in Canada. Covering four business models (sole proprietorship, partnership, co-ownership, franchise), the program addresses strategic planning, regulatory compliance, location selection, equipment procurement, and digital marketing. Designed to provide practical tools for avoiding costly mistakes in the growing hearing healthcare industry.

  • Differentiate among four clinic business models (sole proprietor, partnership, co-ownership, franchise) and select a model aligned with their risk tolerance, control preferences, and growth goals.

  • Outline core licensing and compliance requirements for Canadian clinics, including professional licensure, business licensing, zoning, and PIPEDA obligations.

  • Estimate start-up budgets for micro-clinic vs. standalone clinic scenarios and prioritize cost drivers (equipment, leasehold improvements, marketing, working capital).

  • Design a patient-centred clinic layout (reception, waiting, testing, fitting, storage) that supports clinical workflow and accessibility.

  • Identify must-have clinical tools (audiometer, tympanometer, REM, otoscope) and justify the role of REM in evidence-based fittings.

  • Develop a basic branding and digital presence plan, including clinic naming, logo, website essentials, Google Business Profile optimization, and testimonials.
